Weather...blah, blah

We didn't make any big plans for the weekend, since I wasn't sure how I would be feeling and leave it to crazy Utah weather to foil any last minute ideas. Yesterday, the boys and I packed a picnic and within 15 minutes, the weather went from a sunny 75 to a very chilly 50 degrees with rain and wind. So our picnic ended up being a trip to the Old Grist Mill deli, YUM!!! Today we made a family trip to Costco. Costco and free sample Saturday is second to Disneyland for my boys. We had a ball and of course it was raining again by the time we were done shopping, so the park was out again. Hopefully Monday will warm-up.

Also, I have the most amazing husband in the world. He stayed up three nights last week and washed and folded ALL of our laundry. This was definitely a household task that I let fall by the way during my weeks of headaches and nausea. I am embarrassed to admit how many loads there actually were, but this was no small feat. I have a wonderful sweetheart!

May 27, 2010

It's crazy because other than being tired, I've felt fantastic the last few days. Hallelujah!!! Maybe I had to get over the 8 week hump or something. Either way, I'm counting my blessings. I have started packing away my "skinny" clothes. No tears, but certainly a sense of loss. Does every woman have five different sizes in her closet? I figured if the "skinny" items were out of sight, then it wouldn't be as depressing to look in my closet and see all the things I can't wear. I hung up a few cute new maternity tops I bought, so I could look forward to getting bigger instead. In theory this sounds great, so we'll see how it goes.

Pregnancy...

I sat on the bathroom floor for an hour and a half yesterday overcome with waves of nausea, unable to move and unable to will myself to vomit. My head was so heavy and achy. Porter was an absolute sweetheart and started a movie for Caleb. He came in and checked on me every few minutes, brought me crackers and soda, sat by me and rubbed my head and arm and wrote me a little note, "I love you Mom". Only 4 more weeks until I start the second trimester. Hopefully I will feel better. It's interesting what one thinks about while sitting in a dark bathroom for such a long time...

Today was much better. The Tylenol actually provided relief and the butterflies in my stomach stayed at a manageable level. It felt great to be able to play outside with the boys and do an art project together.

Surprise!!!

1/2 Marathon?

I'm starting to feel the race bug again. This happens to me every spring. The weather gets warmer and I remember the freedom of running in shorts instead of being restricted by layers of fleece and poly-cotton blends. I also start thinking about putting a swimsuit on and determine that a few extra miles certainly wouldn't hurt. Although then I get funky tan lines which look wacko and unglamorous in swim wear anyway. Well, I just checked the 1/2 marathon schedule for the next few months and there are several coming up, so I just need to commit.

Hmmmm....

I hate it when a nice snuggle moment is ruined by flatulence. Dave's or mine. I was watching some program the other day which stated that, on average, people pass gas 14 times a day. So all you liars that pretend you would NEVER do something so unrefined, the rest of us know the truth...

Winter Update

Well...what was supposed to be minor surgery with a short recovery, sure turned out to be a pain in the rear end, or actually abdomen. As I was in the somewhat groggy semi-conscious state of waking up from anesthesia, I overheard the recovery nurses talking.

Nurse #1: There is a cut on that patient's leg. Are they doing something new with hernia surgeries now?

Nurse #2: Uh, no. I think that was an accident.

So I lift the blanket, look down and to my horror, they are talking about me! Apparently during pre-op, the surgeon was trying to make the hole in the sheet larger and cut my leg. This bonus cut actually required several stitches. At this point, I also notice that, what was supposed to be only a 2 inch abdominal incision, actually looks like I had a C-section. It was over 5 inches long. Yikes! Some scar tissue from a previous kidney surgery caused some problems, so lucky me.

Well, needless to say, the two incisions, plus a blood clot in my leg several days later, required much more down time than I had originally planned.

I can't say enough "THANK YOUs", to my mom, for staying the weekend. So many wonderful friends, who brought in meals, came by to chat with flowers, magazines and movies to cheer me up and insisted on taking care of my little boys the next week. And for my amazing husband, who rearranged much of his life to wait on me hand and foot.

On about the 4th day of recovery, I was in the bathroom and Porter walked in (not a lot of privacy at our house). He exclaimed, "Way to go Mom, your going to the bathroom all by yourself. Great job!"

All is well now and healing resumes. Last Thursday was three weeks, so only four more days to go and I can start jogging. Yippee!!!

Also, I want to thank Dave for taking me out on a wonderful date, last weekend. About 18 months ago, Dave and a few of his friends started the SDS (Secret Date Society). The husbands go to the ends of the earth to plan these fantastic dates for their wifes and keep them secret. Dave schedules and picks up the babysitter on these special nights and there is always a small gift for each wife. Yes, we ladies are pretty much spoiled rotten and we love every minute of it! Often it feels like we are in high school again. Thanks babe, for giving me this extra pick-me-up during my recovery. It was wonderful to have a night out and something to look forward to. I LOVE YOU!
